Houston Bead Society Meetings

Fern Earrings

Welcome Spring with a pair of earrings from your garden. These earrings are long and fringy versions of fern leaves in whatever spring greenery color you prefer. It'll help you get in the mood for warmer weather!

Fee: $30.00 (Supplies not included. You'll need two earwires, plus seed beads in size 11, 15 and/or Delicas in fern colors - a variety of greens)

Brooch Series I - Freeform Peyote Brooch

Brooches have been a hot accessory recently, and doing Freeform Peyote is a great way to make one uniquely your own. Use all your favorite colors and beads and learn to let yourself go creatively with Freeform. (This class is the first in a series of brooch classes.)

Fee: $30.00 (Supplies not included. You'll need a brooch pinback, and small quantities of a variety of seed beads - hexes, triangles, cubes, seed beads - in different sizes)

The second in the series, this is a lovely star that you'll love to wear. You'll use brick stitch to make a Lone Star in you favorite color.

All lampwork beads deserve a moment in the limelight! This brooch is the perfect way to do it. Create an easy panel that holds your favorite focal bead and show it off (instead of storing it on your bead table!)

Fee: $30.00 (Supplies not included. You'll need to bring in a focal bead from home or purchase one at the store. You'll also need a brooch pinback and a variety of Delicas or seed beads in colors to match your focal bead.)

Professional Assembly & Finishing Techniques

Does your jewelry stand out? If not, sign up for this class and discover the different techniques that make your jewelry speak! Intermediate - must already know basic bead stringing - This is a professional technique class not a project class, so I do demos and then you practice various technique. This class is perfect for those who want to upgrade their construction to a more professional level.
Fee: $60.00 (None, Supply kit will be furnished as part of class fee).

Everyone loves these sparkly, swinging, dress-up earrings! Make your own set and match all your best evening wear.

Fee: $30.00 (Supplies not included: You'll need 2 earwires, 2 findings of some style to dangle beads from, a variety of crystals - one slightly larger than the rest for the center dangle - the bulk of them no larger than 6mm, 4mm would be easier.)

Splash! Bracelet

This bracelet design was published in Aug 2003 Bead and Button. Come learn to make this bracelet from the designer if you prefer watching to learn. This loop fringe bracelet is very lush and flowing when finished - many people tell me it looks like a sea anemone.

Fee: $40.00 (Supplies not included: You'll need a tube of size 8 seed beads, about 40 grams of Japanese size 5 bugles, a focal bead, a few embellishment beads and a button or bead clasp)

Freeform Peyote

Learn to work peyote in this creative and free-spirited way. We'll make earrings, but you can use the technique for bracelets and necklaces too. Take it as far as your design spirit wants to go.

Fee: $30.00 (Supplies not included. You'll need small quantities of a variety of seed beads - hexes, triangles, cubes, seed beads - in different sizes)

Embellished Right-Angle Weave

This intermediate class makes a tube of right angle weave with wings that no one will be able to figure out when you are done! They will look at it and beg you to explain how you did it. It helps if you've tried RAW before, because this is a 3-D project.

Fee: $40.00 (Supplies not included. You'll need 5-10 grams of size 11 seed beads - not Delicas - plus about 200 embellishment beads in 3-4mm, like crystals or firepolish)

Tubular Ndebele Necklace

Learn Ndebele (herringbone) stitch using size 8 beads, so it's easier to see where you're going. Make a lovely tube embellished with fringe that you can make short for a bracelet or long for a necklace.

Fee: $40.00 (Supplies not included - You'll need 40 grams of size 8 seed beads for the base tube and 20 grams of size 8 seed beads for the fringe row)
